Why we are passionate about your Dental Hygiene

Your oral hygiene and oral health are important to us for many reasons even beyond keeping your teeth for your entire life.

Yes, oral bacteria associated with periodontal (gum & bone) disease can be very problematic to the mouth and is the leading cause of tooth loss. Dental bone loss does not hurt so some people do not realize it is occurring until it is too late to save the tooth. Removing the bacteria removes the cause of plaque-induced gingivitis and associated periodontal disease. It provides you with less future maintenance and will help you keep your teeth.

However, another great concern is the inflammation involved with periodontal disease. This Inflammation is a contributing factor to other health conditions. For example, the American Heart Association found direct evidence that periodontal disease is independently associated with arterial disease which leads to heart attacks.  Heart attacks and strokes are not the only diseases associated with the development of periodontal disease.  Links have long been made to associate periodontal disease to low birth weight babies, diabetes, and other serious systemic disorders.

The key is to prevent gingivitis and periodontitis- you in collaboration with your dental hygienist- can prevent “gum” disease and maintain your oral health. Again, this is so important because sound periodontal health promotes general health.
